Discipleship Point and Prayer

FRIDAY'S BIT OF
DISCIPLESHIP

Placeholder Picture

“The disciple who is taking up his cross and getting on it, will not be looking down upon other disciples who are not where he is spiritually. The cross of Christ will be too much on his mind to compare himself with others. He will be keenly aware of his sin, for which Christ died, including the sinful pride in his own heart that daily needs to be crucified. For him, the ground at the foot of the cross will indeed be level. If he does any comparing, it will be to see others, in humility, as better than himself (back to Philippians 2:3)”

Humility Prayer

Jesus, I humbly pray that You teach me how to bear my cross, denying myself and accepting Your calling in my life. Let me be gentle of heart and absent of judgmental spirit when observing others in their spiritual journey. I pray to be a blessing to all who cross my path even as You have blessed my path with Your cross. So I pray in Your name O Savior Jesus. Amen.

MISSIO DEI

Discipleship Point

How Does The Phrase
“Christ-Apostolic Authority”
Explain The Missio Dei?

God’s mission is centered in Christ, the divine Apostle (Hebrews 3:1), who was the Sent One. In that apostolate (office of sending), He was given the authority to go into the world to be flesh of our flesh to rescue mankind. Through His gracious work, Christ was given the authority to give forgiveness and eternal life. Christ confers His apostolic (sending) authority to all believers to participate in His mission of proclaiming the Gospel to the world. In the great sending (apostolate) of God, all baptized believers in Christ are given the authority to proclaim the authority of Christ over all flesh, the world, sin, death, and the devil.

See the following Scriptures in your bible or on pp. 251-252 of The Great Sending book: John 17:2, Matthew 7:28-29, Matthew 9:6,Matthew 28:18-19, John 10:17-18

Discipleship Prayer

Father God, You have given all authority in heaven and on earth to Jesus, who used that authority to give forgiveness and eternal life – to me and to all who would receive it (John 1:12). As a receiver of His grace and forgiveness, I pray that my life becomes an extension of His sending, His grace, and His authority so that others can experience life in His name.

Proverb for the Week

Proverbs 13:20

Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.

• When you evaluate those who walk with you through life, do you see them as generally wise or foolish? Godly or ungodly?
