1 Peter 5:2
Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;

• In Christ, I am both a sheep of the Good Shepherd Jesus and His under-shepherd to help care for other sheep in His flock.
Pondering Point
Nearly all Christians end up playing a dual role while following Jesus. We follow as sheep for whom He provides provision, safety and guidance; but we also lead other sheep in a shepherd-like fashion to help minister to them or even restore them to Jesus’ care and fold. Whether you prefer the imagery of under-shepherd, leader-sheep or sheepdog, the role is to be filled nonetheless – a role Jesus designed. And while not everyone is called to shepherd the "flock of God" like the elders and pastors being addressed by Peter in the above quote, we all have opportunity to shepherd people and care for them.

Review
Are you a shepherding parent or godparent, a grandparent or some other relative (aunt, uncle, etc.)? Do you shepherd at work, church or in the community through organized activities like sports, drama, dance, or scouts?
Repent if Necessary
Repent of neglecting to lead, or mis-leading or of leading others astray (siblings, children, friends, etc.) Repent of going astray in the role of sheep and of shepherd.
Return as Necessary
Return to Jesus – or better yet, see the Good Shepherd Jesus picking you up as His sheep and placing you in His arms or on His shoulders. Enjoy that moment of closeness and then finish with this prayer:
Prayer for the Day
Lord Jesus, how good it is to picture You loving me as one of Your favored sheep. Help me shepherd others into Your loving arms that they might know such joy and peace that I find in You. In Your name I pray. Amen.
