Wellspring of Joy

Hebrews 10:9-10

Then [Jesus] said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first (covenant) to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Pondering Point

The will of God the Father was for God the Son Jesus to take on human flesh (born of the Virgin Mary) and live like the rest of mankind. Why? So that Jesus could in turn establish a new covenant between God the Father and all of mankind.

Why are these bible verses being brought up in a week themed around sacrificing time?

Consider the amount of time Jesus invested to put this new covenant into place. Consider that He focused His entire life’s direction on this goal (God’s will for Him). Then once again consider the result of His sacrifice of time and life to redeem you and me: We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Jesus, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2).

We are part of His joy that carried Him into and through the sacrifice.

Hebrews 12:2

2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, as we reflect on time this week, I rejoice in you that you took the time to be born of a woman, to be born under the law to save us who would otherwise be condemned under the law. I thank you that I personally have been made holy through your sacrifice.

In view of your sacrifice and God’s mercy offered through it, I offer myself as a living sacrifice to you. (Romans 12:1).

Amen.
