Disciples Share Jesus’ Call to
Live Sacrificially with Time

Matthew 5:41

If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.

Pondering Point

When a person claims to be a follower of Jesus, it means that he or she will be a follower of His Word. If not, he/she falls under Jesus’ rebuke in Luke 6:46, "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord' and not do what I say?".

This word above quoted from Jesus to ‘go the extra mile’ requires sacrifice of time and effort for another person -- because you are a disciple of Jesus. Not because they deserve it; not because they need it; in fact, "if forced" He said, go that extra mile because you are His disciple.

This sounds like a great form of spiritual fitness. You can get a lot of extra “spiritual fitness” miles in as you accompany others on their journeys!

Prayer

Jesus, You have taught us to be willing to “go the extra mile” with others. Remind me to practice this with a charitable attitude that chooses to go farther because You ask it of me. Thanks for reminding me that such acts of obedience bring honor and glory to God our Father. Amen.
