Sunday's One Another Commands

Serve One Another

Galatians 5:13

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free.
But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh;
rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Pondering Point

This Bible verse regarding how to treat one another includes the same theme from an opposing perspective: Don’t indulge the flesh. God has freed us – Yes! But not to indulge the flesh. No! Instead we are to serve one another humbly in love.

We are freed to focus on others rather than ourselves. This is a characteristic attitude of God and His kingdom people. For the sake of His kingdom (which we pray for in the Lord’s Prayer) let us serve one another humbly and participate as God’s kingdom people.

Ponder these four questions with God now (and eventually a group of others):

  1. Who served you humbly this past week? Thank God.
  2. Who served you poorly this week? Forgive and pray for them.
  3. Whom did you fail to serve humbly this week? Seek forgiveness.
  4. Whom did you serve humbly? Praise God for faithfulness.

Prayer Prompt

Jesus Christ, let Your kingdom come and Your will be done as we forgo “indulging the flesh” and instead serve one another humbly in love. In Your name we ask this. Amen.
