Build One Another Up

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Pondering Point

In line with our theme this week of praying over the harvest fields of the world, we don't work the harvest-field of the Lord alone, but amongst others. It is good to be told to encourage one another and build each other up. But what does that look like in practice – in practical terms? How do we encourage (rather than discourage) and build up (as opposed to tear down). Here are a few more “one another” verses to expand your scope of practice – and give you plenty to work on:

  • Don’t judge one another over minor issues: Romans 14:13
  • Bear one another’s burdens: Galatians 6:2
  • Pray for one another: James 5:16
  • Inspire one another toward good works: Hebrews 10:24
  • Seek to build one another up: Romans 14:19
  • Disciple one another: Romans 15:14
  • Be at peace with one another: 1 Thess. 5:13
  • Don’t grumble against one another: James 4:11; 5:9
  • Be of the same mind with one another: Romans 12:6
  • Speak to one another with psalms: Ephesians 5:19
  • Hymns and spiritual songs: Colossians 3:16
  • Don’t envy one another: Galatians 5:26
  • Don’t bite, devour, or consume one another: Galatians 5:15
  • Do not slander one another: James 4:11
  • Patiently tolerate one another: Ephesians 4:2

Prayer Prompt

Lord Jesus, help me build others up rather than tear them down, to encourage rather than discourage. Build me up to do this effectively in Your name and to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
