God's Mission
John 14:25-27
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
“Look, the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world!”
~ John the Baptist
John 1:29
All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ~Jesus
Pondering Point
These words above are shared with Jesus’ disciples in the Upper Room near the end of His training with them. They might not know this fact, but Jesus does.
Their training won’t end, but it will change, being handed over to the Holy Spirit. His role would be to remind them of all that Jesus taught.
As Jesus’ disciples of today, our primary teacher – and encourager – in the faith is still God’s Holy Spirit, bringing enlightenment to disciples old and new through the teachings of Jesus.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, Jesus said “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29). Although I have not literally walked with Jesus like the first disciples, I can walk with him like the Apostle Paul – in spirit. Teach me of Jesus, of His ways, of His life and His ministry – of His teachings. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
