Disciples share Jesus’ heart
for unity in going on mission

There are multiple facets of unity for followers of Jesus: unity of the faith, unity in the Lord’s Supper, unity under the Spirit – and in the theme this week – unity in our mission for Jesus.

Following Jesus as We Come 'n Go

Luke 5:31-32

It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Pondering Point

When Jesus came into this world, it was to call sinners to repentance. We are those sinners. As such, He calls us to come to Him in repentance and find in Him a Savior. Not just a savior, but the Savior. As the Apostle Peter states in Acts 4:12, “there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved.”

And while we continue to struggle with sin (and therefore continually come to Jesus with repentant hearts), we no longer come merely as sinners, but also as “saints” – people made righteous through faith in Jesus. We are no longer defined by our relationship to sin, but by our relationship to God through Jesus (see Romans 6-7).

And to boot, every time we go out from our encounter with Jesus (see tomorrow's devotion), we go with a message of healing that other sinful people can benefit from.
