Called to DO Salting and Lighting
Last week we looked at being lights.
This week we look at doing the light thing.
As a leader at a youth retreat, I remember walking across the camp property during a gathering whose theme focused on being lights for God. It happened to be dark out as our group headed back to our rooms to discuss the implications of living this out. In doing so, we passed by a lamp barely visible – because it was unlit.
The irony was deep. I still recall it vividly.
We too are lamps, and out of our enlightened nature in Jesus, we are meant to cast light into the world around – particularly in darkened areas. We don’t want people tripping over us on the way to God, but rather finding direction to Him through us.
Prayer
Father God, as we have been salted and enlightened by Your Holy
Spirit, enable us to help salt and enlighten the world around us to Your glory. We pray this through Jesus Christ, the originating Light-of-the-World. Amen.
Go Light Your World!
Micro-Meditation Scripture
Psalm 103:19-22
19 The LORD has established
his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the LORD, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the LORD, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the LORD!
Micro-Meditation Action
Read the verses of the Psalm two times. Focus on what you see differently on the second reading.
Mark any words or phrases that catch your attention.
Meditate: Talk (or write in a journal) with God about the words that catch your attention. Ask Him to impress things upon your heart and mind; expect a response.

Pondering Point
Stars of the night bring praise to God with light. The moon induces praise as it reflects sunlight. How are you shining light and bringing praise to God?
