Sunday's One Another Commands
Do not lie to each other
Colossians 3:9
Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.
Pondering Point
It seems so simple: Do not lie to each other. Yet how easily it is set aside – not just by a world-at-large -- but by many adherents to the Christian faith. It is as if this command has been taken as a suggestion or situational ethic.
Pondering These Four Questions with God
(and eventually with a group of others)...
- Have I disregarded God’s command to not lie to others?
- When is the last time I lied? Why? Repent of it/them
- Have others recently lied to me? Forgive them/pray for them
- What could I do to combat lying in my daily life?
Prayer Prompt
Father God, help us to value Your word and Your perspective and Your will more highly than even our own reputation among others. Help us to "take off the old self with its practices" in practice, not just in theory.
Since you have removed that sinful garb in our baptism, help us live in truth and practice truth for your sake. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.
Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self - with its evil practices.
