Disciples Share Jesus’ Call to
to Come Away from Temptation

Our next set of IMMERSION themes revolve around warnings from
the teachings and life of Jesus. We start with an overarching theme
of temptation, a part Jesus built into the Lord’s Prayer.

Matthew 6:13

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Pondering Point

This Bible verse might be a bit of a stretch for a “following Jesus as we come-and-go” notion, but we are using it anyway.

If we are following Jesus, He will lead us out of temptation, maybe around it, even through it, but not into it. Quite the opposite, He will deliver us from the Evil One and his plans. Jesus already delivered us from the devil's clutches related to spiritual death, but there are plenty of traps laid by the devil and his cohorts able to catch us unaware in our Christian walk.

So we are praying for our Heavenly Father – and by extension to Jesus – to lead us so that (among other things) we don't fall into temptation. It is also a great prayer to share about others for whom we are concerned – hence lead us not into temptation.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, enable us to follow You in such a way that we do not fall into temptation, and that our Heavenly Father delivers us from the plans of the Evil One. Bless those near and dear to our hearts with the same coverage and leadership as they follow You as well. Amen.
