Disciples Share Jesus’ Priority of Keeping
God First – and Go for Him

Matthew 21:28, 30

There was a man who had two sons. He went to
the first and said, “Son, go and work today in the vineyard”…the father went to the other son and
said the same thing.

Pondering Point

Last week we highlighted the importance of making God a priority by coming to him; this week we highlight the priority of going for God.

Today's verse comes from a parable in Matthew 21:28-32 which portrays a father telling each of his two sons to go work in the vineyard for him. As you read the parable, consider whether there is a reflection of you in either or both of these two sons.

Which of God’s children does He ask to work in His vineyard? This is good conversation fodder with the Lord in prayer and with a group of fellow disciples either now or later when you gather together for small group or micro-group time.

Prayer

Father God, it is not difficult to see a parallel between the father in the parable and You as our Father. How often in church have we said “Yes” to Your call to work and yet not done it, letting other activities occupy our time and efforts?

I am sorry Lord. I repent.

May our churches repent too. I want to be one among many who do Your will. Lead me – and Your church – to do so. In Jesus’ name I pray.

Amen
